Strongbridge Associates LLC serves a variety of startup adults and offers services tailored to their individual and unique needs. What follows represents a range of typical days and activities for three different people with distinctive needs and experiences. There are good days and bad days in any life, and typically our clients have better days, now and in the future.
Kevin, 19, an Apprentice
Kevin wakes at 8:00am in his studio apartment. He makes his breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee, and checks his email messages. He calls his lead advisor to check-in. They talk about his plans for the day. This morning he has an AA meeting at 11:00, and a plan to have lunch with his sponsor. Kevin is developing a relationship with his sponsor and meeting other AA members.
Kevin is also enrolled at a local university. He is taking Introduction to Accounting through the Continuing Education Department. He has a mid-term exam to study for tomorrow, and Kevin is anxious about doing well. In the past, he was more familiar with failure, giving up under pressure, and self-handicapping by getting drunk. Instead of falling back into old ways, Kevin meets with the Strongbridge Associates academic advisor at 1:30pm and reviews for his exam. They meet once or twice a week to work on study skills, memorization, and preparing written assignments. He feels more confident after the review, and from there, heads home to get ready for work.
Kevin prepares and packs a turkey and cheese sandwich for his dinner. At 3:45pm Kevin drives his car to a local discount department store where he works part-time as a stock boy. He knows he wants to do better someday, but for now, this job provides an opportunity to learn good work habits and gain self-confidence. Though Kevin is uncertain about his career, he has an interest in sales and business. He looks forward to work and believes he is learning business from the bottom up.
At 7:00pm he takes his break and buys a Sprite and a snack to go with his sandwich. His shift is over at 11:00pm and Kevin calls his lead advisor to check-in. Kevin tells his advisor he had a good day. He talks about how work is getting better. His supervisor praised him about how quickly he is learning the store and where things go. It wasn’t all good. Kevin acknowledges that some of the guys at work invited him to a club after closing. I really wanted to go, but I didn’t want to let myself down again. Kevin prepares for bed, makes a positive affirmation to himself that he will sleep well, wake up refreshed, and do well on his mid-term. Then he falls asleep with ease.
